“Astrozone digs deep for Mandurah Cup heat win”

Box eight over the 490m is a very difficult draw to overcome, especially against elite opposition. The Paul Stuart owned and trained Astrozone (pictured) was forced to work hard from the wide alley but came out on top, winning by half a head in 27.48. Short courser Desert Rampage flew to an early lead before being overtaken in the shadows of the post by Astrozone. Tuxedo Black was a length away in third, narrowly holding off Honcho Monelli who was surging down the outside. Astrozone looks poised to run a huge race next week and could give Stuart his first triumph in the feature event. The Mandurah Cup was first run in 1979 and this year’s instalment will be staged next Friday night after four heats were contested this evening.
