“Alfa Tonic chases down Desert Rampage to win Free For All”

Desert Rampage had won his last 4 in a row over 405m at Mandurah including a blistering run of 22.55 on July 14. He was sent out a clear favourite in tonight’s Mandurah Mail Free For All and after a swift getaway backers would have been very confident of collecting. He scooted a couple of lengths in front at the first turn but Alfa Tonic who hadn’t raced since May 12 settled in second position. The Andrew McLaren prepared chaser reeled in Desert Rampage and took the lead at the top of the straight. He attacked the line and won by a length in a very impressive 22.72. Desert Rampage held second narrowly ahead of the fast finishing Stockton. Alfa Tonic is owned by N. Passarelli and T. Anastasio and has now won 8 of 17 career starts for Nambeelup trainer Andrew McLaren. McLaren notched a double half an hour later when Pilbara Blue won over 405m in 22.85.
