“Quality Field assembled for Dash Final”
The Dash is the only feature series run over 302m all year and has been held since 1981 when Annabelle Lane scored on the old track over 288m. The distance was switched to 302m in 2006 when the new track was built and Leemond was the winner for Shane Beard. Some notable winners since include Hidden Cost (2008), Tobasco Lad (2011), Egotistical (2013) and Activator (last year). Tonight five heats were contested with all winners and the three fastest runners up making next Thursdays final. The Brad Cook trained I’ll Miss You won the first heat, leading throughout in 17.22 over a gallant Pavel Monelli. Heat Two produced a stunning performance with the James Jeffries trained Semikhah winning by six lengths in a near record 16.88 off box one. The third heat was won by Ben MacLean’s chaser Black Kyurem who charged home after a moderate getaway to score in 17.13. MacLean prepared the next winner too, Ryan Monelli (box 1) recieved a strong shepherd from Lolly Thief (box 2) and scooted to victory in 17.19. Nagus won the final heat from box five in a smart 16.99 for Brad Cook. On times Semikhah and Nagus loom as the hardest to beat in next Thursday’s Final. The box draw will be done by the grader on Monday.
