“Puppy Classic Box Draw”

The Puppy Classic Final was first run in 1996 when Christine Robartson trained Best Of Patch to victory on the old circuit over 530m. Notable winners since include Billy’s Echo (1997), Ultimate Rebel (2001), Lord Monelli (2005), Back Tonight (2007), Dyna Nalin (2013) and Ramifications (2016). Three heats were contested tonight and the first produced an amazing winning time with the Chris Halse prepared Art Noveau leading throughout in a near record 29.51. The daughter of Barcia Bale scored by seven lengths over kennelmate West On Maisie and another two lengths away third was Perth Cup winner Equanimity. Race favourite Mendoza Monelli ($1.20) took out the second heat despite finding himself in fifth position at half way. He rocketed home to defeat Dandalup Brutus (second) and Lini Danco (third) in a time of 30.11. Enzo Crudeli trained the winner of the third heat with Black Bombshell saluting after a fast getaway. He sped out of box three and won in 29.80 ahead of the fast finishing Pyredos Monelli and Neil Monelli who both would have recorded some serious run home times.
