20140823 Cannington Saturday (includes TABtouch National Finals)


SWEET IT IS (Mogambo- Off Springer) thrilled the crowd and those that supported her into favouritism with a brilliant victory over another Victorian Xylia Allen in the 2014 Tabtoch National Distance final. The field was led by Tasmanian chaser Painted Dotty before Xylia Allen railed through going off the back straight and looked the winner on the corner before Sweet It Is powered over the top of her to win by a length in 41.39, a length and half outside of Miata’s track record. It was a big couple of nights for McDonald who was crowned Australian trainer of the year the evening before in Perth. Xylia Allen went passed Miata’s Australian stake earning record by finishing second.

CHICA DESTACADA (Cosmic Rumble- Eluthra) took out the 2014 Tabtouch National Sprint final after leading from box 2 giving NSW another win in the feature and Doreen Drynan her first Gr 1 win after 4 previous sprint finalists. The black bitch came across too WA earlier in the year, however had little luck in the WA Oaks final after finishing second in her heat. Chica Destacada had to lift in the straight to hold off the WA hope Star Recall by a neck in 30.27. Chica Destacada joins other NSW trained stars in Rapid Journey (1998) and In the Frame (2004) to have won the National Sprint final at Cannington.

Race 1 No 4 Tangier. Smart youngster who was impressive on debut over the 642 metres.

Race 2 No 4 Cosmic Rambo. Was chasing 8 straight wins tonight and met all sorts of trouble.

Race 4 No 6 Tureaud. What an exciting chaser this bloke is. Undefeated in 6 starts.
